The recipients will preserve and appreciate the rich history and significant books and artifacts.

American Public University System (APUS) has made a significant contribution to the preservation of local and military history by donating approximately 7,500 books, journals, and archival materials to several non-profit organizations. The donation, facilitated by the Richard G. Trefry Library, includes historical records, artifacts, and archival materials from the career of late U.S. Army Lieutenant General Richard G. Trefry.

The recipients of this donation include Charles Town Public Library, Harpers Ferry Public Library, Jefferson County Historical Society, Jefferson County Museum, the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library at the Command & General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The donation aims to preserve and appreciate the rich history and significant books and artifacts, ensuring they remain accessible for future generations.

Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, APUS Provost, expressed gratitude for the partnership with these organizations, stating, "We're so grateful that these collections showing our rich history will be preserved and appreciated" [1]. Jacquelyn Trefry, the wife of General Trefry, also expressed her gratitude, noting the importance of continuing his work through education [1].

The donation is part of APUS's ongoing efforts to optimize its real-estate portfolio and support its remote workforce. The University continues to operate a robust online library and archives, enabling 24/7 access to vital resources [1]. This donation highlights APUS's commitment to community engagement and historical preservation.

The Jefferson County Historical Society, which received historical records, echoed the sentiment of partnership, stating, "By taking over the preservation of these photographs, post cards, newspaper articles, and other historical records, Jefferson County Historical Society has enhanced its ability to provide such historical resources for research about our community" [1]. The Jefferson County Museum, which received archival and display supplies, artifacts, and archival materials, also expressed excitement about stewarding these collections for generations to come [1].

American Public University System (APUS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Public Education, Inc. (Nasdaq: APEI) and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). APUS delivers affordable, high-quality, workforce-relevant higher education and is recognized for its innovative approach to online learning [1].
