Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto Launch Shelby Cloud Network for Web3

Aptos Labs and Jump Crypto have launched a cloud-based storage network designed specifically for Web3 and decentralized applications. The network, named Shelby, is a globally distributed platform powered by Aptos’ high-throughput technology. It is chain-agnostic, meaning it is compatible with major blockchains such as Ethereum and Solana.
Shelby is designed to meet the needs of developers who require cloud-like speed and remote access for demanding use cases. These include streaming video, artificial intelligence, and decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) applications. Aptos Labs, the creator of the Aptos blockchain, is known for its focus on scalability and performance. Jump Crypto, the digital asset division of Jump Trading Group, is actively involved in venture investing and developing blockchain and crypto-native projects.
Shelby enters a highly competitive cloud marketplace, which is currently dominated by major players such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Pranav Raval, Aptos’ engineering lead, highlighted that Shelby offers performance comparable to leading cloud platforms but provides developers with the ability to retain ownership, control pricing, and program business logic at the protocol level.
Raval also discussed the role of cloud services in supporting AI workloads, noting the significant data storage requirements and the growing need for data center infrastructure. The increasing demand for data places pressure on cloud platforms to provide scalable and efficient storage solutions. Raval emphasized that Shelby empowers builders to train AI models faster by using relevant data streamed in as needed, creating a more connected and contextual data environment for AI agents.
