On September 5, 2025,
(AMAT) closed with a 2.85% increase, trading at a volume of $1.14 billion, ranking 74th in market activity. The stock's performance was driven by sector-specific developments and operational updates tied to its core semiconductor manufacturing technologies.Recent analyst commentary highlighted renewed demand for AMAT's advanced deposition and etch systems amid global chipmakers accelerating 3D packaging adoption. A key client's confirmed multi-billion-dollar fab expansion in Southeast Asia reinforced near-term revenue visibility, though supply chain constraints for rare earth materials remain a near-term risk. Strategic partnerships with two European research institutions to co-develop next-generation atomic layer deposition solutions were also cited as catalysts for long-term growth.
Technical indicators showed strong short-term momentum, with the stock breaking above its 50-day moving average for the first time since June. However, market participants noted elevated short interest levels could lead to volatility if earnings estimates continue to outperform current consensus. No major regulatory or litigation risks emerged during the reporting period.
To run this back-test accurately I’ll need to pin down a few implementation details: 1. Universe • Do you want all U.S. listed common stocks (NYSE + NASDAQ) or a different market set? • Should ETFs, ADRs, preferreds,
. be excluded? 2. Re-balancing & weighting • Each trading day, will we form an equal-weighted portfolio of that day’s 500 highest-volume stocks, hold for one full trading session, and liquidate at the next day’s open (or close)? • Or do you prefer a value-weighted/volume-weighted basket? 3. Price point & slippage • Use open-to-open, close-to-close, or open-to-close returns? • Should we include a round-trip transaction cost (e.g. 5 bps per side)? 4. Data limitations • Our current back-test engine handles multi-asset baskets if the daily constituent list and weights are pre-computed. I can generate those lists automatically once the above items are clarified. Please let me know your preferences on the points above, and I’ll proceed with the data retrieval and back-test.
