On September 10th, Apple held its highly-anticipated fall product launch, introducing the new iPhone 16 series. The new lineup, which includes the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, was the focal point of the event. Alongside the hardware announcements, Apple also teased its next leap in artificial intelligence—Apple Intelligence, scheduled to release in China next year.
The iPhone 16 series brings significant upgrades, particularly in processing power. The iPhone 16 Pro series is equipped with the cutting-edge A18 Pro chip, employing second-generation 3nm technology. This chip boasts a 16-core neural engine and a 6-core GPU, delivering a 20% performance boost and doubling the ray tracing capabilities compared to the A17 Pro. The CPU architecture, which features a 2+4 setup, offers a 15% increase in performance while reducing power consumption by 20% under similar performance conditions.
Camera capabilities have also seen improvements. The iPhone 16 Pro models are equipped with a 48MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP 5X periscope telephoto lens. These cameras support ProRAW and HEIF photo formats and can record 4K video at 120fps in Dolby Vision. Enhanced video capture features include high-speed sensors for 0.25x slow-motion recording, as well as spatial video capabilities.
The new lineup also features pricing details for the Chinese market. The iPhone 16 starts at 5,999 RMB for the 128GB version, while the iPhone 16 Plus begins at 6,999 RMB. The iPhone 16 Pro offers higher storage options, starting at 7,999 RMB for the 128GB model, with prices rising to 12,999 RMB for the 1TB version. The iPhone 16 Pro Max, targeting the high-end segment, starts at 9,999 RMB and goes up to 13,999 RMB for the top-tier model.
Apple also announced that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will be officially released on September 17th, supporting a total of 27 devices, including the new iPhone 16 series. The latest software versions aim to ensure optimal stability before the full rollout.
Furthermore, Apple briefly previewed its collaboration with Tencent, showcasing the gaming giant's new title, "Honor of Kings World," running on the new A18 chip. This collaboration demonstrates the powerful gaming capabilities of the new iPhones, leveraging the Unreal Engine 5 to provide an outstanding gaming experience.
Additional enhancements include larger display sizes, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max offering the largest iPhone screen to date at 6.9 inches. Consumers can also expect improved battery performance and faster charging capabilities, with the Pro models supporting 40W wired fast charging. The iPhone 16 Pro Max features the largest battery in the series, rated at 4650mAh.
Apple aims to maintain its competitive edge in the Chinese market by emphasizing advanced technology, robust performance, and a strategic focus on integrating AI functionalities, setting the stage for future developments in artificial intelligence.
