Apple is set to launch a new gaming application that will replace the existing Game Center. This new application will serve as a game launcher, managing in-game achievements, leaderboards, communications, and other activities. The application will be pre-installed on Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, and will provide access to the gaming section of the App Store. It will also promote Apple's Arcade subscription service, which costs 6.99 dollars per month. The new application is expected to be released during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, and a Mac version is also in the works, allowing users to access games downloaded from outside the App Store.

This move by Apple comes as the company seeks to establish a stronger presence in the gaming market, particularly as competitors like Nintendo prepare to launch new gaming consoles. The new application aims to make gaming on Apple devices more user-friendly and to highlight the gaming category, which has been a core part of the App Store since 2008. Over the years, developers have added high-end games such as Resident Evil, Death Stranding, and Assassin's Creed to the App Store. Currently, approximately two-thirds of App Store revenue comes from games and in-app purchases, including tokens, levels, and other in-game upgrades. The Mac platform has also seen improvements, with faster chips delivering better graphics performance, and Apple has released tools to make it easier for developers to port existing games to the Mac.

As part of its gaming strategy, Apple has acquired RAC7 Games, a small studio that developed the popular game Sneaky Sasquatch. However, despite these efforts, the new application may not change the perception of Apple as a gaming giant among players and high-end game developers. Many developers and players still view the Mac as inferior to Windows PCs for gaming. The new application is one of several features planned for the next version of iOS, which is expected to be released in September, around the same time as the next generation of iPhone products.
