Apple Unleashes M4-Powered MacBook Pro: A Leap in Speed and Design for Professionals
On October 30, Apple unveiled its latest lineup of MacBook Pro laptops, featuring the cutting-edge M4 series chips, including the M4, M4 Pro, and the highly anticipated M4 Max. These additions significantly boost performance, offering an impressive upgrade from previous models.
The newly launched MacBook Pro models are available in two sizes: 14-inch and 16-inch, with color options of Space Black and Silver. Notable is their Liquid Retina XDR display, with an optional nano-texture feature that incurs an additional cost. Apple touts considerable enhancements in design and display technology with these releases.
At the heart of these laptops lies the M4 chip, built on the second-generation 3-nanometer process. The base M4 chip includes a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. The M4 Pro ups the ante with up to a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, while the M4 Max takes it further, incorporating up to a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, making them ideal for handling sophisticated AI models directly on the device.
Compared to the M1 chip models, the M4 boasts up to 3.4 times the speed, the M4 Pro offers up to 3 times the speed enhancement over the M1 Pro, and the M4 Max reaches up to 3.5 times the speed of the M1 Max. These chips excel in processing AI tasks swiftly and efficiently, cementing Apple's lead in performance innovation.
The new MacBook Pro models have been optimized for specific user groups. The M4 chip is geared towards entrepreneurs, students, and creators, while the M4 Pro targets researchers, developers, engineers, and professional creatives. The powerhouse M4 Max is tailored for data scientists, 3D artists, and composers. This strategic segmentation underlines Apple's approach to cater to a diverse range of professional needs.
Furthermore, Apple highlights the exceptional power efficiency of the M4 series chips, boasting a record-setting battery life of up to 24 hours. This sets a new standard for Mac devices, addressing the perennial demand for long-lasting battery performance in professional laptops.
Available for order, the MacBook Pro with the M4 chip starts at $1,599 in the U.S. and will be priced at 12,999 RMB in China, with sales commencing from November 8. All models now start with 16GB of unified memory, aligning with the recent increase in the MacBook Air's standard configuration.
These laptops also include Thunderbolt 5 ports, supporting data transfer speeds of up to 120Gb/s, enhancing connectivity capabilities significantly.
