Apple Inc. reported its first sales growth in China in two years during the June 2025 quarter, driven primarily by strong demand for new Mac computers and iPhone upgrades, particularly among urban consumers. The company’s Greater China revenue rose 4.4% year-on-year to $15.4 billion, surpassing Wall Street’s expectations of $15.2 billion [1]. This marks a significant turnaround following a period of soft demand in the region, which had previously led to
closing its first-ever retail store in China [9].The rebound was fueled by a combination of factors, including aggressive discounting on flagship models like the iPhone 16 Pro, which saw a 30% price reduction during the May 618 shopping festival, contributing to an 8% year-on-year increase in iPhone sales in China [8]. In addition, the company’s Mac division played a key role in the recovery, with demand rising among business and professional users. This performance defies expectations, as Apple had struggled with market share losses in recent quarters amid stiff competition and shifting consumer preferences [5].
The broader revenue growth for Apple in the quarter was 10% year-on-year, with total revenue reaching $94 billion [3]. While the China market contributed a critical portion of this growth, the company also benefited from strong iPhone sales globally and a booming services segment. Analysts had anticipated a modest rebound, but the resilience of the iPhone 16 line and renewed consumer confidence in Apple’s ecosystem proved stronger than forecasted [4].
This growth is particularly notable given the challenging macroeconomic environment, including rising tariffs that Apple estimates will cost it an additional $1.1 billion in the next quarter [3]. Despite these headwinds, the company’s ability to adapt to local market conditions in China—through both product strategy and pricing—has been pivotal in reversing a two-year sales decline. The results suggest that Apple is regaining traction in a key market, where its brand appeal and ecosystem advantages continue to resonate with a wide range of users [6].
