Apple announces A19 iPhone chip made with 3 nanometer chipmaking technology - event

Apple has made a significant announcement at its 2025 event, unveiling the A19 chip for the iPhone 17 series. This chip is manufactured using 3 nanometer technology, marking a substantial leap in processing power and efficiency. The A19 chip is expected to deliver improved performance, faster processing speeds, and enhanced battery life, setting a new benchmark in the smartphone market.

The A19 chip will power the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, which includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. According to Apple, the A19 chip will offer a 40% performance boost over its predecessor, the A18, which was introduced in the iPhone 16 series. This performance improvement will be crucial for the new iPhone 17 models, which are expected to feature advanced camera systems, improved displays, and longer battery life.

The 3 nanometer technology used in the A19 chip allows for more transistors to be packed onto a single chip, resulting in increased processing power and reduced power consumption. This technology is a significant advancement over the 5 nanometer technology used in previous Apple chips, such as the A16 and A17. The A19 chip will also support the new iOS 26 operating system, which is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 17 series.

In addition to the A19 chip, Apple is also expected to unveil updates to its Apple Watch and AirPods Pro lines. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is rumored to receive faster charging, 5G connectivity, satellite support, and a larger screen, while the Apple Watch Series 11 may offer refinements such as a sleeker chassis and new health sensors. The AirPods Pro 3 are rumored to get a redesign with smaller earbuds, a slimmer case, and improved touch controls, featuring the new H3 chip for enhanced active noise cancellation.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to feature major design changes, improved cameras, and the new iOS 26 with the Liquid Glass UI. The base iPhone 17 is likely to remain the most accessible, with the 128GB variant expected between Rs 79,990 and Rs 84,999. Despite its entry-level price, it will include upgrades like a 6.3-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, a 24MP front camera, and the new A19 processor. The iPhone 17 Air, Apple’s thinnest phone at just 5.5mm, is rumored to cost Rs 99,000 to Rs 1,05,000 for the 256GB variant.

The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to range from Rs 1,24,990 to Rs 1,34,999, offering upgrades such as an aluminium frame for better heat management, a 48MP telephoto lens, and a battery with up to 16% more capacity. At the top end, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may start at Rs 1,50,000 and go up to Rs 1,64,999, featuring advanced camera options including 8x optical zoom, 8K video recording, improved thermal management, and enhanced connectivity like Wi-Fi 7.

Apple’s 2025 event promises a combination of hardware innovations and software updates, positioning the company to set trends for the smartphone and wearable markets over the coming year. The event will be live-streamed from Apple’s official website, the Apple TV app, and Apple’s YouTube channel, starting at 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST) from Apple’s Cupertino headquarters.
