Apple (AAPL.US) seeks to overturn DOJ's smartphone monopoly case

Apple AAPL.US is reportedly set to ask a federal judge to dismiss the US Department of Justice's case against the company for alleged illegal monopolisation of the smartphone market.The case against Apple was started during the first term of Donald Trump's presidency and was brought to court during the Biden administration.The tech giant has already taken action to dismiss the case, arguing that restricting developers from accessing its technology is reasonable and forcing the company to share its technology with competitors would stifle innovation.Big tech companies have been under scrutiny for antitrust reviews, with Alphabet GOOGL.US's Google found to have illegally monopolised the online search sector. Agreements Google struck with smartphone manufacturers such as Apple were also at the heart of the US Department of Justice's antitrust case against the search giant.Apple could lose a significant amount of valuable revenue if the US Department of Justice ultimately prevails after a series of appeals, according to Jefferies.Apple has also reportedly proposed a $100m investment plan in Indonesia, which would see it build a factory to produce accessories and components in the country. The proposal comes after Indonesia banned the sale of the iPhone 16, citing the company's failure to meet local regulations for components.
