Apple (AAPL.US) releases software update, Siri officially integrates with ChatGPT
Apple (AAPL.US) began integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into its devices on Wednesday, a much-anticipated feature that investors hope will help drive sales of its latest iPhone. The rollout comes as part of a broader deployment of AI-driven tools in the latest update to the operating systems for iPhones, iPads and Mac computers. As part of Apple Intelligence, the ChatGPT integration will allow the company's Siri voice assistant to leverage the chatbot's expertise, including queries about photos and documents such as presentations. Users can also ask ChatGPT to create written content in any app that supports the new writing tool feature. They can add images using the chatbot's image generation capabilities. The software update comes during the holiday shopping season, Apple's busiest time of year. So far, the slow rollout of Apple Intelligence features has raised some investor concerns about the iPhone 16 sales cycle. The AI will be available on the latest iPhone series as well as the Pro and Pro Max versions of the iPhone 15 series. Users of iPads with A17 Pro or M1 chips or higher, and Macs with M1 chips or higher, can also access these tools.
