Apple (AAPL.US) is in the midst of a leadership overhaul: Global Supply Chain chief Dan Riccio is set to retire
Apple AAPL is set to see a change at the top of its global supply chain procurement team, with Dan Roskes, who has spent 24 years at the company, retiring, according to people familiar with the matter. His successor is expected to be David Tom, who has been his deputy.
Roskes, who oversaw the procurement of parts and deals with suppliers, will be replaced by Tom. His departure is the latest in a string of executive changes at the company.
Roskes, who was the global procurement and supply management vice president, played a key role in Apple's negotiations and agreements with suppliers, which directly affected the profitability of products such as the iPhone and iPad. He previously managed the procurement team with Tony Blevins, who left in 2022. Since then, Roskes has led the team alone and reported to Sabih Khan, the operations chief.
Tom, who joined Apple in 2003, started in the legal team and later oversaw the procurement of chips, wireless components and batteries. His promotion reflects Apple's talent development and promotion system.
A spokesperson for Apple, based in Cupertino, California, declined to comment on the move.
Apple's stable leadership team has been one of the keys to its success, but as many executives, including CEO Tim Cook, approach retirement age, the company faces broader succession challenges. Several vice presidents have left in 2022 and 2023, and the rate of departures slowed in 2024. However, more executives are likely to retire in the coming years.
Notably, in August, Apple announced that Luca Maestri, its chief financial officer, would step down at the end of the year. He will remain at the company but his role will shift to information systems, enterprise digital security and real estate. These changes show Apple is preparing for a leadership transition.
