Apple (AAPL.US) marketing chief Greg Joswiak said on social media that the company plans to announce news related to its Mac computer line in the coming week, indicating that the highly anticipated models with new M4 chips are about to be released. While Joswiak did not specify what products Apple will release, insiders said the company will launch its first Mac computers with M4 processors. The M4 chip, which was first introduced in May as part of the latest iPad Pro, improves artificial intelligence tasks and boosts the overall speed of the CPU or central processor. The Mac computers that will be launched next week with the chip will include the latest iMac, MacBook Pro and Mac mini.Apple's AI platform Apple Intelligence will also make its debut next week. The software, which is expected to be released as part of an iOS, iPadOS and macOS update on October 28, will be particularly adept at running AI functions, though it can also run on current Macs. The base version of the M4 chip will be used in iMac, the low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro and entry-level Mac mini. The high-end Pro version will be included in the more advanced versions of the new mini models. The more powerful MacBook Pro will also be equipped with a higher-performance version of the M4 chip. While the new iMac and MacBook Pro will look similar to their current versions, the Mac mini will undergo a major external redesign for the first time in more than a decade. It will be smaller, approaching the size of an Apple TV set-top box. At least some versions will have five USB-C ports for connecting accessories.Apple will also update its Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad accessories for the first time in years. The new models will replace Lightning ports with USB-C connectors — part of a broader shift driven by EU regulations. The Mac launch will be Apple's second product this fall, following the release of the iPhone 16, new Apple Watch and upgraded AirPods in September.
