Apple AAPL.US is reportedly planning to expand its Apple News service to more countries.
According to insiders, Apple (AAPL.US) plans to expand its news platform, which currently serves 125 million readers in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia.
The iPhone maker is considering launching the service in more countries to expand its influence in the digital news sector.
The US-based tech group aims to strengthen its role in driving publisher revenue and improving ad effectiveness. The platform has become a key player in the digital news industry and is part of the company's efforts to connect consumers with its products.
It was reported that "while Apple News hasn't produced much original news, the platform that launched nearly a decade ago has had a significant impact on what millions of people in Western powers read every day."
The free and paid versions of the app offer curated stories from newspapers, magazines, games, podcasts, and newsletters.
Since its launch five years ago, the paid version Apple News+ has expanded from 300 publications to over 450 publishers worldwide. In the US, the service costs $12.99 a month, while in the UK it costs £12.99.
It was added that "for publishers, one of the biggest risks is Apple eating into potential users who might pay directly for content."
