Apple's (AAPL.US) 20 products have been granted content certification in Indonesia, but additional permits are required for local sales.
An Indonesian Industry Ministry spokesperson stated on Friday that the country had granted local content certificates for 20 apple (AAPL.US) products, including the iPhone 16, though Apple still needs other departments' permits to sell the devices. Last month, Apple announced it would invest more than $300 million in Indonesia, including factories to manufacture parts for its products and a research and development center.Apple previously failed to meet local content requirements and Indonesia last year banned the sale of the iPhone 16. The spokesperson, Febri Hendri Antoni Arief, said the company had been certified for 11 phone models and nine tablets. The company now needs permits from the Communications and Digital Ministry and the Trade Ministry to sell its products in the country, the minister said. The minister said negotiations with Apple had been "difficult" for several months.Apple was outside the top five smartphone brands in Indonesia in the third quarter of last year, according to Canalyst.
