Ant Group Denies RWA Stablecoin Partnership Rumors

Ant Group, the fintech arm of Alibaba, has issued a statement denying rumors of a collaboration with Hainan Huatie, a Chinese company providing AI-computing services, regarding partnerships in Real-World Assets (RWA) and stablecoins. The rumors suggested that Ant Group's digital technologies arm was planning to cooperate with Hainan Huatie on web3-related ventures, including stablecoins and real-world assets. However, Ant Group clarified that there are no formal agreements, business arrangements, or project implementations between the two parties.

In its official statement shared on the social platform WeChat, Ant Group addressed the widespread speculation and emphasized that there have been no such collaborations. The company also warned against the unauthorized use of its name for improper publicity and advised investors and partners to be cautious of market rumors and potential investment risks. Ant Group further stated that it would take legal action against entities spreading misinformation.

The denial comes amidst a broader context of companies in the market hyping up concepts such as RWA and stablecoins, often implying false cooperation with Ant Financial. This clarification is particularly relevant given the recent developments in the stablecoin regulatory landscape. For instance, Ant Group’s International arm has plans to obtain a stablecoin issuer license in Hong Kong after the city’s Stablecoins Ordinance takes effect in August 2025. The new law requires all entities issuing stablecoins pegged to the Hong Kong dollar or operating in the region to obtain a license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
