American
, a cryptocurrency company backed by Eric Trump, has successfully raised $220 million from private investors. This substantial capital injection is earmarked for the purchase of Bitcoin and the expansion of its digital mining operations. The funding round, which included a $10 million transaction conducted directly in Bitcoin, underscores the growing institutional interest in digital assets. The capital raise is a significant milestone for American Bitcoin, marking its high-profile entry into the crypto space. This development comes at a time when there is increasing political momentum in the U.S. for pro-crypto regulations. President Donald Trump's administration has been promoting crypto-friendly policies, and his sons, Eric and Donald Jr., have been actively involved in various blockchain ventures.
American Bitcoin was established through a Trump-advised investment bank. As part of its launch,
Corp., which operates mining sites in Alberta, New York, and Texas, transferred its mining equipment to the new venture in exchange for an 80% equity stake. Hut 8 plans to take American Bitcoin public via a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining Inc.The company's strategy revolves around Bitcoin mining, which involves using specialized equipment to verify transactions on the blockchain in exchange for new BTC rewards. The newly raised capital will be utilized to scale both Bitcoin purchases and the infrastructure necessary to support mining activities on a larger scale.
Hut 8 has also announced plans to expand into Dubai, filing paperwork with the Dubai International Financial Centre and assembling a team there. However, this move is unrelated to the American Bitcoin project.
With this capital raise, American Bitcoin is poised to become one of the better-funded mining ventures in the U.S. The company's combination of political visibility and an aggressive acquisition strategy positions it well for future growth. As it approaches a potential public listing, American Bitcoin may soon join the ranks of Bitcoin-focused companies trading on U.S. markets.
