American Airlines files for Chapter 11, maintains operations, honors tickets.

AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, has filed for Chapter 11 reorganization to achieve industry competitiveness. The airline will maintain normal flight schedules, honor all tickets and reservations, and continue employee pay and benefits. AMR has $4.1 billion in cash to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods and services during the proceedings. The AAdvantage program and customer service levels will also be maintained.
