AMD CEO says PC demand strong. Taking market share
AMD (AMD) CEO Lisa Su recently reported that PC demand remains strong, with the company continuing to gain market share. According to the latest Steam hardware survey data for July 2025, AMD’s share of gaming CPUs has finally crossed the 40% mark, indicating a significant shift in the PC gaming CPU market [1].
This increase in market share can be attributed to several factors, including the popularity of AMD’s 3D V-Cache CPUs, such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which have been well-received by gamers and enthusiasts. The demand for high-performance CPUs, especially X3D models, and competitive pricing have contributed to AMD’s rise, chipping away at Intel’s former advantage [1].
In addition to its CPU gains, AMD is also seeing increased adoption of its Radeon 9000-series GPUs based on the RDNA 4 architecture. However, these GPUs have yet to make an appearance on the Steam chart, likely due to constrained supply or slow adoption [1].
On the software side, the OS landscape continues to shift towards Windows 11, with approximately 59.9% of Steam gamers using it, up from 59.4% in June. Meanwhile, Windows 10 (64-bit) has slipped to 35.19%, down from 35.69% in June, indicating a continued trend towards newer operating systems [1].
AMD shares are up 47% year to date and 34% over the last 12 months, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s performance and market position. The company stands to benefit from the resumption of its chip sales in China and the potential for pull-forward in CPU sales as manufacturers built up inventory to fend off the impact of tariffs on PC sales [2].
