Amazon Music Strikes a Chord with AI-Powered 'Weekly Vibe' to Combat Listener Fatigue
In response to Spotify's innovative AI DJ feature, AmazonAMZN-- Music has accelerated its development of artificial intelligence capabilities, focusing particularly on AI-generated playlists and AI-enhanced searching functionalities, aiming to strengthen its competitive stance in the music streaming domain.
On September 8, Amazon Music unveiled its latest feature, "Weekly Vibe," available to all subscription tiers in the U.S., compatible with both iOS and Android platforms. This feature is designed to enhance the personalized music listening experience by addressing a common issue among music enthusiasts—boredom from repetitive listening. Using AI technology, Amazon Music generates a personalized playlist every Monday that reflects the user's recent listening habits, considering their evolving "musical moods" and preferences.
Furthermore, the service recommends new works with similar styles, enriching the music discovery process. Users can access their weekly playlist by navigating to the “Library” section and selecting “Recommended for You,” where they will find newly titled playlists with descriptive features and curated tracks, focusing on specific genres or themes, such as hip-hop hits or popular pop collections.
Sharing capabilities are integral to the Weekly Vibe feature, allowing users to share playlists with friends, post them on social media, and save them to their personal libraries for future listening convenience.
Weekly Vibe is an enhanced version of Amazon Music's previous "Maestro" playlist generator, which was trialed last year. Maestro allowed users to input their "current mood" or even emojis as prompts for AI to create tailored playlists according to their needs.
The platform has also introduced a new AI-driven feature called "Explore," intended to aid users in deeply exploring their musical preferences by showcasing signature works of their favorite artists and recommending musicians with similar styles.
