Amazon has launched a significant expansion of its grocery delivery services, now offering Same-Day Delivery of fresh perishable groceries to customers across more than 1,000 U.S. cities. This initiative is poised to grow significantly, with the aim to expand to over 2,300 cities and towns by the end of 2025. This move highlights Amazon’s strategic push to streamline its grocery business, integrating fresh groceries with its established delivery structure.
The service allows customers in select U.S. locations to purchase thousands of fresh grocery items, such as produce, dairy, meat, seafood, baked goods, and frozen foods, alongside millions of everyday
.com products. These items can now be added to a single cart, enabling delivery to customers' doorsteps within hours. This convenience comes with specific pricing models: free Same-Day Delivery for Prime members on orders over $25, and a $2.99 charge for smaller orders. Non-Prime customers can access the service for a fee of $12.99 per delivery.Amazon's Same-Day Delivery initiative is supported by a specialized temperature-controlled fulfillment network designed to ensure the quality of perishable items through a comprehensive quality check process and the use of recyclable insulated bags. This service complements Amazon's existing grocery platforms, including Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, by integrating these offerings into a unified shopping and delivery experience.
The company initially piloted the inclusion of fresh groceries in regions such as Phoenix, Orlando, and Kansas City, where it saw a positive reception from customers. Popular items such as strawberries, Honeycrisp apples, limes, and avocados have quickly become top sellers within the Same-Day Delivery offering.
Amazon's strategy to expand its grocery delivery service will likely enhance its market position, allowing it to deliver a wide variety of products quickly and efficiently. This expansion comes as part of Amazon's broader efforts to simplify and modernize grocery shopping, aiming to make it a more convenient and cost-effective option for consumers.
