Amazon has started offering 10-minute deliveries in New Delhi as part of its quick-commerce push. The service, called "Now," is aimed at competing with local rivals such as Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto. Amazon has committed over $11 billion to India since entering the market in 2013 and plans to invest an additional $233 million to boost its delivery network and infrastructure.
Amazon.com Inc. has expanded its quick-commerce offerings by introducing 10-minute delivery service in New Delhi, aiming to intensify competition with local rivals such as Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto. The new "Now" service, available in the Indian capital, follows Amazon's launch of the same in Bangalore last December [1].
The e-commerce giant is investing heavily in India, having committed over $11 billion since entering the market in 2013. Recently, Amazon announced plans to invest an additional $233 million to bolster its delivery network and infrastructure, opening five new fulfillment centers to enhance e-commerce deliveries across smaller towns and cities [2].
Amazon's rivals have already pioneered near-instant deliveries, shipping groceries to gadgets within minutes, a trend driven by the growing consumerism in India. The local upstarts have forced Amazon and Walmart Inc.'s Flipkart to enter the quick-commerce segment to keep up with consumer demands for speedy gratification.
To further enhance its delivery capabilities, Amazon India has added more than 30 new delivery stations across Tier II and Tier III cities, including Nagpur, Panchkula, Howrah, and Indore. This expansion is part of a larger Rs 2,000 crore investment to scale operations, aiming to improve same-day and next-day delivery speeds for customers in these cities and surrounding areas [2].
Amazon's commitment to India underscores its strategic focus on the country's growing e-commerce market. The company's aggressive expansion in delivery infrastructure indicates its intention to capture a significant share of the quick-commerce segment, which is rapidly gaining traction among Indian consumers.
