Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) & Thai University: Unveiling ChulaGENIE AI

Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, has partnered with Thailand's preeminent higher education institution, Chulalongkorn University (Chula), to unveil ChulaGENIE, an innovative generative AI project. This collaboration, announced on November 28, 2024, aims to provide advanced AI capabilities to Chula's entire community of over 50,000 staff, faculty members, and students.

ChulaGENIE is a continuous application delivery project built on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, offering a suite of AI foundation models tailored to the diverse research and learning needs of Chula's community. Initially, users will have access to Google's Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini 1.5 Pro models, with enterprise-grade versions of Anthropic’s Claude models and Meta’s Llama models to follow.

The project's multilingual and multimodal capabilities enable users to generate content in various languages and extract insights from lengthy and complex documents, including PDFs. This multimodality and long context window make ChulaGENIE an invaluable tool for researchers, faculty, and students alike.

Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, expressed his enthusiasm for ChulaGENIE, stating, "For Chula to realize its vision of becoming Thailand’s premier AI university, we needed best-in-class capabilities to accelerate the development of trusted and sovereign AI that benefits society." The project's rigorous safety, privacy, and security safeguards, along with the flexibility of choice through Model Garden, have allowed Chula to build and unveil ChulaGENIE in under three months.
