Allegro plays down InPost row, seeks to continue cooperation

InPost shares fell to their lowest level in nearly two years after the Polish parcel locker operator reported slowing volume growth in its home country amid a dispute with e-commerce company Allegro.eu SA over delivery options [1]. InPost shares, which trade in Amsterdam, plunged as much as 13% to their lowest since November 2023.

The company reported second-quarter parcel volume growth in Poland of 6%, the slowest pace in four years. InPost filed a court complaint against Allegro, alleging that the platform is redirecting customers to its own lockers instead of InPost ones. InPost's founder and CEO, Rafal Brzoska, stated that Allegro is manipulating delivery options, breaking their contract [1].

Allegro, however, rejects these allegations, describing InPost's claims as "completely groundless and not based on the agreement binding both parties" [1]. Despite the ongoing legal dispute, Allegro expressed a desire to continue operational cooperation, particularly during the pre-holiday period [2].

InPost's second-quarter results were mixed, with revenues increasing by 34.7% year-on-year but net profit declining by 21% [2]. The company's adjusted EBITDA of PLN 1 billion was slightly above market consensus. The drop in InPost's share price is partly due to concerns about cost pressures, particularly related to the integration of the British courier company Yodel, and a slowdown in parcel volume growth in the Polish market [2].

InPost's strategy of funding foreign expansion with profits from its Polish business has raised concerns. The company's foreign revenues now account for 52% of its total sales [1]. Despite challenges in the domestic market, InPost plans to install over 14,000 new parcel lockers in 2025, with a significant portion in international markets [2].
