Alibaba exec - in quick commerce business, peak daily order volume reached 120 mln in August; weekly average daily orders reached 80 mln
Alibaba Group's quick commerce business has set a new milestone, with peak daily order volume reaching 120 million in August. This significant achievement underscores the company's commitment to its strategic pillars of consumption and AI + Cloud, as well as its continued investment in innovative technologies. According to Alibaba Group's Chief Executive Officer, Eddie Wu, the quick commerce business has been a key driver of growth, winning consumer mindshare and generating substantial synergies from the combination of consumer platforms. The quick commerce service, which includes on-demand delivery and other high-frequency services, contributed to a 25% year-over-year increase in monthly active consumers on the Taobao app in the first three weeks of August. This growth highlights the effectiveness of Alibaba's "user first" strategy, which aims to meet all consumer needs through a comprehensive consumption platform.
The company's strong performance in the quick commerce business is also reflected in its overall financial results. Total revenue increased 2% year-over-year, while excluding divested assets, revenue on a like-for-like basis grew by 10%. The Cloud Intelligence Group experienced accelerated revenue growth, with AI-related product revenue achieving triple-digit growth for the eighth consecutive quarter.
Looking ahead, Alibaba remains committed to investing in its strategic pillars to capture historic opportunities and drive long-term growth. The company has announced significant investment plans, including a RMB380 billion (US$53 billion) commitment to AI and cloud infrastructure over the next three years, and a RMB50 billion (US$7 billion) investment in quick commerce.
