Alaska Tops the List with Highest Average Credit-Card Debt in the US

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's 2025 report, US credit card balances have reached $1.21 trillion. Alaskans carry the highest average credit-card debt in the US, with an average balance of $7,683, followed by Washington, D.C. with an average balance of $7,684. The lowest average balance is in Wisconsin at $5,206. Higher-balance states generally have higher credit lines, while states with lower average balances often have tighter credit availability.
