The company's approach is inspired by the natural flight techniques of albatrosses, which extract energy from wind shear layers above the ocean. Unlike conventional aircraft that rely on finite fuel or battery stores, Alteon’s design aims to break this limitation by repeatedly moving between layers of air traveling at different speeds to gain energy. The initial prototype features a three-meter wingspan and flies close to the ocean surface, climbing into faster-moving air and repeating the cycle.
