They were responding to an emergency with United Airlines Flight 2384, which had declared an emergency and requested a gate assignment due to an odor on the plane. Four minutes later, Air Canada Flight 23 was cleared to land on the same runway, but crashed into a fire truck instead. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
