AI releases Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini models: performance surpasses GPT-4 in chat, coding, and reasoning
In the competitive field of AI, x.ai announced two new versions of its advanced Grok model: Grok-2 and Grok-2mini. x.ai shared the news on their official blog, stating, "We are thrilled to share an early preview of Grok-2, which has made significant improvements in key areas such as chat, coding, and reasoning, surpassing our previous Grok-1.5 model." x.ai also introduced Grok-2's compact version, Grok-2mini, which is smaller in size but still powerful.
The early version of Grok-2 has been tested on the LMSYS leaderboard under the name "sus-column-r" and has outperformed the Anthropic's Claude3.5Sonnet model and OpenAI's GPT-4Turbo. According to Baird's report, OpenAI's GPT-4 is currently considered the most advanced large language model on the market.
x.ai further revealed that Grok-2 and Grok-2mini have been beta tested on the X (former Twitter) social network and are planned to be publicly available through enterprise APIs later this month. Additionally, just earlier this week, OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, also released a new version of its GPT-4 large language model, although specific details have not been disclosed.
x.ai's recent developments have been supported by numerous investors. The company closed a $6 billion funding round in May, valuing the company at $24 billion. Investors in this round include Valor Equity Partners, Vy Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and other investors such as Fidelity Investments, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, and Kingdom Holding. Ark Investment Management, led by Cathie Wood, is also a shareholder of x.ai.
Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk indicated that he plans to propose a $5 billion investment in the company to its board of directors. This proposal received overwhelming support in an online poll. It is noteworthy that Musk not only leads Tesla but also has shared leadership roles with companies like x.ai. These actions demonstrate the strong momentum of x.ai's development in the AI field and its attention from the market and investors.
Turning market noise into visual signal.
