"AI Crypto Market Turmoil: US-China Trade War Fallout"
The escalating US-China trade war has sent shockwaves through the AI crypto market, with investors grappling with the fallout of increased tariffs and antitrust investigations. On February 4th, China retaliated against the US' 10% tariff on Chinese goods by imposing a 15% counter-tariff on selected US goods, sparking a sell-off in the AI crypto segment.
In the past 24 hours, local reports have revealed China's plan to reopen its antitrust investigation into US tech giants, including Google and NVIDIA. This development has further rattled the AI crypto market, with the total market cap of the AI coins segment declining by over 9%.
NVIDIA, a key player in AI hardware production, is heavily reliant on Chinese semiconductor components. The US' tariff plan against China includes a 10% tariff on Chinese semiconductor components, which could make it expensive for NVIDIA to produce GPUs and slow down its AI hardware production. This unfavourable development may discourage institutional investment in the AI sector, as AI projects requiring high-performance computing capabilities would be affected.
Major AI cryptocurrencies have been hit hard by the recent developments. In the last seven days, almost all the top ten AI tokens have shown bearish performances, with NEAR Protocol, Internet Computer, Bittensor, Render, Artificial Superintelligence Alliance, The Graph, Virtuals Protocol, Arweave, and AIOZ Network all experiencing significant declines. In the last 24 hours, some AI tokens, such as NEAR, AIOZ, and AI16Z, have suffered severe declines.
The NVIDIA share price has recorded a decline of 20.60% in the last 30 days, with a YTD change of -14.21%. In the last five days alone, the market has reported a fall of 6.14%. However, contrary to the general trend, the market has surged by 1.71% in the last 24 hours.
Experts believe that if the US and China trade crisis eases, the AI crypto sector will recover quickly. However, if the economic war between the top two global economies worsens, the AI crypto segment could face more losses. There are rumours that China will launch investigations into Intel and Qualcomm
