Lt. General Manjinder Singh, the South Western Army Commander of the Indian Army, underscored the crucial role of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern warfare during a seminar held at Jaipur Military Station. The event, titled "Next Generation Combat -- Shaping Tomorrow's Military Today," highlighted the need for the Indian Army to swiftly adapt and innovate to counter the multifaceted challenges posed by contemporary conflicts.

General Singh emphasized the importance of AI in enhancing decision-making, optimizing resource management, and improving the speed and accuracy of military operations. He cited the success of Operation Sindoor, where AI and advanced systems played a pivotal role. The seminar also discussed the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as drones, precision munitions, and advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

The Lieutenant General stressed that AI would be a game-changer in shaping the future of military operations. He highlighted the need for strong ethical standards, human oversight, and adherence to international humanitarian law when developing Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS). This emphasis on ethical AI development underscores the Indian Army's commitment to responsible innovation.

General Singh also announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the South Western Command and Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. This partnership aims to advance joint indigenization and boost research and development in defense technology. The MoU focuses on integrating cutting-edge solutions and ethical AI development for future military operations.

The seminar attracted military experts and industry leaders who discussed the rapid changes in warfare and the technological advancements required to stay ahead. Topics included hypersonic weapons, directed energy systems, advanced cyber and electronic warfare systems, and soldier-centric modernizations like exoskeletons and AI-powered battlefield management.

The event also featured a display of the latest equipment being developed by the defense industry to solve critical field Army issues. The Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) coordinated the display, which was inaugurated by General Singh himself. Representatives from various industries interacted with military officials during the course of the Tech Seminar.

The seminar provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of warfare and the need for quicker integration of advanced technologies. General Singh's call for innovation and adaptation underscores the Indian Army's commitment to staying ahead in the face of rapidly changing threats.
