FedEx Freight has recently expanded its operations in the Indianapolis market by opening a new service center in Greenwood, Indiana. The 43-acre facility, located at 2955 Allen Road along Interstate 65, is designed to accommodate anticipated growth in the less-than-truckload (LTL) segment in South Indianapolis. The service center will also serve the Louisville, Kentucky, and Muncie, Indiana, markets [1].

The new facility features 125 doors and spans nearly 90,000 square feet, including an office, dock, break room pod, and on-site fueling services. Additionally, the site includes a 10,800-square-foot shop maintenance facility with six service bays and a truck wash bay [2]. The expansion is part of FedEx Freight's ongoing strategy to optimize its facility footprint and invest in strategic markets.

FedEx Freight's door count in the Indianapolis market will increase from 252 to 377 with the opening of this new terminal. The company plans to hire for various roles, including drivers, freight handlers, operations leadership, fleet maintenance technicians, and other support positions [1].

FedEx Freight is in the process of becoming its own publicly traded company following a spinoff from FedEx. The company is expected to become a stand-alone entity by June 2026, with John A. Smith named as the CEO and board member R. Brad Martin as chairman [2]. Smith previously served as CEO and president of FedEx Freight between 2018 and 2021.

The expansion into Greenwood, Indiana, is part of FedEx Freight's broader strategy to enhance its terminal network and meet growing demand in key markets. This move also aligns with the company's goal of optimizing its facility footprint and investing in strategic locations to support its operations.
