Adobe (ADBE.US) Photoshop makes its way to mobile: iPhone users get an early taste, with the Android version on the way.
Adobe (ADBE.US) recently released its highly anticipated iPhone version of Photoshop, marking the industry-leading creative software's first foray into the smartphone platform. On Tuesday, Adobe said the mobile release would complement its existing iPad version of Photoshop, and plans to launch a version for Google's (GOOGL.US) Android system later this year. The free version includes many of Photoshop's core features, such as generative AI technology that can fill in image blanks, layer editing of photos, and more. Adobe also offers a subscription service for $7.99 per month to unlock more advanced features.Adobe has long been a leader in the desktop design and creative software space. However, the company has yet to achieve significant success in extending its advantage to mobile platforms. The competition in the smartphone photo editing app market is fierce, and Photoshop ranked 29th in its category after launching in the US. Currently, the leading apps in the photo and video categories include ByteDance's CapCut video editor, Instagram, and Canva's editing app. Adobe's Lightroom app, specifically designed for photo processing, ranked ninth on Wednesday. It's worth noting that Adobe is committed to providing users with a powerful toolset, even without subscribing to a paid service. Its premium subscription plans not only include the web version of Photoshop but also offer additional features on mobile and iPad. The release of the iPhone app marks a significant expansion of Adobe's business footprint and will test the appeal of its AI features to a broader consumer base.
