The World Health Organization (WHO) has added Novo Nordisk's Ozempic and Eli Lilly's Mounjaro to its list of essential medicines. This may expand access to the drugs globally. The recommendation applies to a range of GLP-1 drugs for diabetes patients with heart or kidney disease, as well as obesity. The WHO encourages generic competition to drive down prices and make the drugs more available in healthcare.
