ACWA Power, Kuwait entities in pact for electricity station

The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) has signed contracts with Saudi's ACWA Power and the Gulf Investment Corporation for phases two and three of the Al-Zour North power plant. The value of these phases exceeds 1 billion Kuwaiti dinars ($3.27 billion) [1].

The signing ceremony, held on August 10, marks a significant milestone in Kuwait's efforts to address severe electricity shortages. The Al-Zour North project, once completed, will generate 2.7 gigawatts (GW) of power and produce 120 million gallons of water daily using combined-cycle technology. The construction is expected to take three years [1].

The Kuwaiti authority's director general stated that the investors, not the government, will bear the cost of the project. This move underscores Kuwait's commitment to public-private partnerships to bolster its energy infrastructure [1].

The contract signing is part of Kuwait's broader strategy to leverage public-private partnerships for its energy projects. The initiative aims to end the country's power crisis by increasing power generation capacity and ensuring a reliable water supply [2].
