Actor's X Account Hacked: Dean Norris Duped in MemeCoin Scam

Breaking Bad star Dean Norris' X account was recently hacked, with the attacker using it to promote a memecoin scheme. The incident, which occurred on January 26, saw Norris' account compromised and used to spread propaganda for a cryptocurrency called $DEAN. The hackers created fake videos and photos, appearing to show Norris endorsing the cryptocurrency.

The blockchain tracking service DexScreener showed that the $DEAN memecoin reached a peak market capitalization of $8.43 million on January 25, during the height of the viral marketing campaign. However, the price of the token dropped dramatically after Norris regained control of his account and publicly denounced the fraudulent scheme.

Norris responded furiously to the incident, posting a video and social media messages titled "I WAS HACKED!!! ALL A FAKE SCAM!!" He expressed his anger towards Reddit users and explained that he doesn't spend much time on X, only learning about the hack through friends' warnings.

This is not the first time Norris' cryptocurrency accounts have been targeted. Last year, someone hacked his profile to promote a fake memecoin scam using his identity. The rise of celebrity account takeovers and fake crypto promotion campaigns has threatened the credibility of the crypto industry.

The problem of distinguishing real endorsements from fake ones has become increasingly difficult due to the use of deepfakes and complex social engineering tactics. As the crypto industry continues to grow, so too does the need for robust security measures to protect against such attacks.
