Accenture Surges Ahead: AI Demand Fuels Q1 Triumph and Optimistic Outlook

Word on the StreetThursday, Dec 19, 2024 11:00 am ET
1min read

Fueled by escalating demand for artificial intelligence (AI) tools, Accenture (ACN.US) announced better-than-expected results for the first quarter of its fiscal year 2025. The IT services provider reported revenue of $17.7 billion, marking a 9% increase compared to the previous year and surpassing market expectations of $17.12 billion. The company's GAAP earnings per share came in at $3.59, also exceeding market forecasts.

Breaking down the performance by business segment, Accenture's consulting revenue amounted to $9.0 billion, while its management services generated $8.6 billion. This growth reflects a significant trend in which businesses actively invest in AI projects and digitalize core operations. By doing so, they aim to enhance efficiency and reduce costs, thereby benefiting firms like Accenture.

The company's new orders for the first quarter rose to $18.7 billion, compared to $18.4 billion during the same period last year. Notably, orders for Accenture's generative AI services alone reached $1.2 billion, while its consulting and outsourcing services recorded $9.2 billion and $9.5 billion in new orders, respectively.

Looking ahead, Accenture has revised its fiscal year 2025 revenue growth forecast from an initial 3%-6% range to a more optimistic 4%-7%, with analysts' expectations averaging around 5.63%. However, the company anticipates its second-quarter revenue to be between $16.2 billion and $16.8 billion, slightly undercutting analysts' average estimate of $16.63 billion.

As of the time of reporting, Accenture's shares had risen by 5.72% in pre-market trading, reflecting positive investor sentiment in response to the robust first-quarter performance and the upward revision of its full-year guidance.

If studios can't absorb the costs, we might see a shift to more domestic content. That's a win for some, but could hurt diversity.
