Performance running shoes also performed well in Q2, led by double-digit gains across Asics, Brooks, and Nike.

Academy Sports + Outdoors (ASO) reported strong Q2 2025 performance, with CEO Steve Lawrence highlighting the success of the retailer's partnership with Nike and Jordan Brand. The rollout of Jordan Brand and expanded Nike assortment has not only driven sales but also facilitated access to more brands such as Converse and HydroJug.

Key products, including Nike Vomero 18, P-6000, and Air Max 270s, performed exceptionally well, contributing to the retailer's overall growth. Jordan Brand sales have shown particular promise, with Lawrence noting significant growth during back-to-school and anticipating strong performance in the basketball season and holiday gifting category. Additionally, performance running shoes, led by double-digit gains across Asics, Brooks, and Nike, have driven sales in the second quarter.

The strategic focus on e-commerce, new store productivity, and technology investments has also contributed to ASO's improved performance. The retailer is planning to open 20 to 25 new stores in 2025, bringing the total to 306 locations in 21 states. The company's myAcademy Rewards program has added over 12 million customers in its first year, further enhancing customer engagement and loyalty.

Lawrence expressed confidence in the retailer's ability to sustain positive momentum through the remainder of fiscal 2025, despite ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty and tariff-related challenges. The company has implemented multiple tariff mitigation strategies, including sourcing shifts and pricing actions, to offset potential impacts.
