Aave Has 47.8% of Onchain Loans-But the 13% Monthly Surge Is Still a Question, Not a Fact

Aave's market share is clear; the token move is not
Aave controls 47.8% of all active onchain loans, but AAVEAAVE-- still has not delivered the 13% monthly surge some bulls want. The token is only up about 10.7% over the last month. That is the gap investors are weighing now: protocol leadership is visible, but the full price rerating has not happened yet.
Bulls can point to Grayscale's case for about $60 million in 2026 earnings and a one-year fair value of $175 using 20x to 25x multiples. Bears can counter that strong usage only matters if the protocol can keep producing it, and the token still lacks a firm claim on that revenue.
That is why this still looks more like a setup than a confirmed breakout. Aave holders do not have an automatic claim on protocol cash flows, and the buyback pause leaves value capture partially discretionary. If activity stays strong, the upside case remains intact. If fee pressure persists, the token rerating stays conditional.
Why the bullish case still revolves around liquidity concentration
The bullish argument here is really a liquidity-concentration argument. DeFi lending holds $54B in deposits, and the top ten venues capture 78% of that money. In a market like that, bulls do not need every lender to win. They need capital to keep pooling into the deepest venues, where suppliers and borrowers are most likely to meet.

Aave still sits near the center of those flows
Aave still has one of the strongest liquidity pedigrees in the category. It has logged six years of uninterrupted operation, processed trillions in deposits, and remains the most used protocol for stablecoin lending. More important, it previously held more active loans than all other tracked competitors combined. That is why many investors still view Aave as one of the cleaner DeFi lending proxies: if credit expands, capital is more likely to concentrate first where depth, users, and markets already exist.
Strong usage does not automatically become token upside
That is also where the argument has to stop being purely bullish on flows.
Protocol leadership does not automatically translate into token upside when the link to cash is governance-led. AAVE currently lacks a direct legal claim on protocol cash flows, and the buyback pause leaves value capture partially discretionary. Bulls can keep pointing to concentration, depth, and rising supply. Bears can keep answering that none of that matters if the token still cannot lock in the fees those flows generate.
What would confirm a bullish move from here
Bullish confirmation checklist
- AAVE needs to push back through the low-$100s and clear the roughly $103 area for the move to look more like a real breakout than another rejection.
- The proposed shutdown of six blockchains and about 50 asset reserves affects less than one percent of total deposits, which makes it easier to read the proposal as cleanup rather than a sign of deeper liquidity stress.
- If the reclaim holds, the leadership story gains credibility: Aave still owns 47.8% of all active onchain loans, so strong usage could begin to overpower weaker revenue prints.
The structural caveat that still matters
The key boundary condition remains value capture. Even bullish fundamental work on Aave has to live with partially discretionary token economics and a buyback pause. In plain English, the protocol can keep generating activity and fees, but the token still needs governance to turn that activity into a stronger case for holders.
What would weaken the setup
- If AAVE loses the $100 area again, the bullish checklist fails and the market is still favoring sellers over a breakout.
- If fee pressure persists and value capture remains a governance outcome rather than a built-in mechanism, rallies into the low-$100s can fade quickly.
