AAA Forecasts Record 72.2 Million Americans to Travel Domestically for Independence Day

According to AAA, a record 72.2 million Americans are expected to travel domestically during the July 4th holiday period, a 2.4% increase from last year and 7 million more than in 2019. Car travel is projected to increase 2.2% to 61.6 million, while air travel is expected to rise 1.4% to 5.84 million. Gas prices remain low, despite recent fluctuations due to the Iran-Israel conflict and weather.

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), a record 72.2 million Americans are expected to travel domestically during the July 4th holiday period. This represents a 2.4% increase from last year and 7 million more travelers than in 2019 [1].

AAA projects that 61.6 million people will travel by car, a 2.2% increase from last year, while air travel is expected to rise by 1.4% to 5.84 million travelers. Gas prices, which remain low despite recent fluctuations due to the Iran-Israel conflict and weather conditions, are contributing to the surge in car travel [1].

The holiday falling on a Friday provides travelers with the option to extend their trips, further boosting domestic travel numbers. "With the holiday falling on a Friday, travelers have the option of making it a long weekend or taking the entire week to make memories with family and friends," said AAA Travel Vice President Stacey Barber [1].

In a separate development, OYO-owned co-working firm Innov8 has sold a 3% stake to investors at a valuation of Rs 1,000 crore to expand its flexible workspace business. Raymond Family Office emerged as the lead investor, acquiring nearly 2% share [2].
