Windsor city hall underwent a security sweep after the mayor, Drew Dilkens, requested help from the OPP, citing the upcoming mayoral election. No covert listening devices were found, but the sweep was requested months before the OPP letter was sent. Opponent Fred Francis, a sitting city councilor, accused the mayor of paranoia. Dilkens said it was a "best practice" and that there was no particular trigger for the request. The OPP did not comment, and the Windsor Police Service said it could not comment on matters involving municipal buildings or public officials.
