Tapestry gets US patent for Mira AI platform

Tapestry, a project under the AI Alliance, has been awarded a U.S. patent for its AI platform, Mira according to Business Wire. The patent covers the platform's innovative technology, which is part of Tapestry's broader initiative to develop a collaborative framework for open and sovereign AI. The AI Alliance, a non-profit coalition with over 200 member organizations, launched Project Tapestry to enable globally federated development of frontier AI models while preserving local control and long-term independence.

The Mira platform is designed to support distributed training, allowing institutions, industries, and nations to co-train a shared open foundation model without compromising data sovereignty. This approach addresses concerns about the concentration of AI infrastructure and data pipelines in a limited number of companies and regions.

Tapestry defines three enforceable layers of sovereignty—national, cultural, and industrial— each ensuring that participants retain control over their data and model development priorities. The project is currently assembling its first contributors, including researchers, systems engineers, compute providers, and government representatives, to build the first sovereign federated training run.

The AI Alliance is hosting a founding workshop in Paris on May 7–8, 2026, to define the architecture, roadmap, and development priorities for the project. The initiative aims to create a durable and collaborative foundation for open AI development, emphasizing technical and institutional coordination.
