China's Xi: To focus on boosting agricultural production capability

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping "made progress" on a deal to keep TikTok available in the US. Trump announced that he will visit Beijing early next year, following a productive call with Xi .

During the call, Trump and Xi discussed various issues, including trade, fentanyl, and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Notably, Trump mentioned that they "made progress on the approval of the TikTok Deal." Trump has previously delayed the implementation of a law requiring TikTok's parent company ByteDance to divest itself of the app over national security concerns .

Separately, Chinese President Xi Jinping has been focusing on boosting agricultural production capabilities. This strategic shift aims to enhance China's self-sufficiency in food production, reduce dependence on imports, and secure the country's food security .

Trump's visit to Beijing is expected to take place in early 2026, and both leaders look forward to meeting at the APEC summit set for October 31 to November 1 in South Korea .
