Tiruppur's Textile Exports Surge 107-Fold to ₹46,000 Crore

Tiruppur, India's knitwear capital, has seen a 107-fold rise in exports from ₹429 crore in 1991 to ₹46,000 crore in FY2025-26. The city, driven by scale, entrepreneurship, and resilience, now exports to over 50 countries, with 65% of shipments going to countries with free trade agreements. The ecosystem employs around 1 million people, with 75% being women and 200,000 migrant workers from 19 states. Tiruppur has become a powerhouse in the textile industry, with major brands like Primark, Walmart, and H&M sourcing textiles from the region.
