First Nations leaders and family demand answers for woman's death after being denied medical travel. Miranda Mamakwa, 31, died last Tuesday after being airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Services Centre. Her family and leaders are seeking accountability from the Non-Insured Health Benefits program, which denied her medical travel for crucial follow-up care. The program failed to arrange medical travel for her four appointments. Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler said, "It is outrageous that Miranda's travel was denied. Her life may have been saved if she had been allowed to receive medical care outside of her community."
