Airtel Africa is shutting down its wholesale fibre and internet subsidiary in Kenya, Airtel Kenya Telesonic Limited, due to significant losses of KES16.1 million ($124,000) in 2025 and accumulated losses of KES19.08 million. This marks the third African market where Airtel has retreated from an underperforming asset in under five years. The company has filed a notice to surrender its Network Facilities Provider Tier 2 licence to the Communications Authority of Kenya, with deregistration set to occur by December 2026.
