In the third quarter of 2025, Metropolitan Bank Holding Corp (MCB) reported a net interest income of MUR7.66 billion, reflecting a 5% increase compared to the previous quarter and a more than 18% rise year-over-year. This growth was supported by a 2.6% increase in loan balances for the quarter, with total loan originations reaching $1.4 billion year-to-date. The bank also experienced a 4.1% increase in core deposits, amounting to a $280 million rise in the quarter, with year-to-date growth exceeding $1 billion.

The net interest margin expanded by 5 basis points to 3.88%, continuing an eight-quarter trend of growth. This improvement was partially offset by a provision expense of $23.9 million in the third quarter, with $18.7 million allocated to specific multi-family loans. Additionally, the bank incurred a $5.2 million provision linked to macroeconomic factors, underscoring its sensitivity to broader economic conditions.

Non-interest income remained stable at $2.5 million, while non-interest expenses rose by $2.7 million from the prior quarter, driven by higher compensation, benefits, and technology costs. MCB also announced a $50 million share repurchase program and its first common stock dividend, signaling a commitment to returning value to shareholders.
