Ford down 2.4%, General Motors down 0.8%
Ford Motor Company (F) fell 2.4% in trading on August 24, 2026, closing at $13.64, marking a continuation of its recent underperformance. Over the past month, the stock has declined by 13.93%, lagging behind both the Auto-Tires-Trucks sector and the S&P 500. Analysts are closely watching Ford ahead of its upcoming earnings report, with a 5.41% decline year-over-year projected EPS. The company’s full-year earnings and revenue forecasts stand at $1.64 per share and $175.77 billion, respectively. Ford’s valuation metrics remain attractive, with a forward P/E of 8.49 and a PEG ratio of 0.3, suggesting a discount relative to industry averages.
General Motors (GM) also declined, albeit modestly, by 0.8%, closing at $86.75. GM has outperformed Ford on nearly every fundamental metric, including a forward P/E of 6.5x, a gross margin of 10.2%, and $14.4 billion in free cash flow. The company recently raised its full-year guidance for adjusted EBIT and EPS, reflecting stronger operational performance. Despite a $10.9 billion EV restructuring charge since late 2025, GM’s momentum remains intact, with analysts projecting a 15.2% upside to its stock price.
Both automakers face challenges in the EV transition, but GM’s stronger balance sheet and clearer path to profitability give it a distinct edge over Ford in the current market environment.
