Fincantieri, Viking sign contracts for two new ocean ships

Fincantieri and Viking have signed contracts for the construction of two new ocean ships, marking a continuation of their long-standing partnership in the cruise industry. The vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2034, will be part of Viking’s upper premium ship segment and will follow the same design and technical standards as previous ships built by Fincantieri. Each ship will have a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons and will accommodate 998 guests across 499 staterooms. The agreement includes option for two additional ocean ships, further expanding Viking’s fleet and reinforcing Fincantieri’s role as a key supplier in the cruise sector.

The new ships will be equipped with state-of-the-art safety systems and will comply with the latest environmental and navigation regulations. They will also incorporate innovations developed through the ongoing collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, including advancements in eco-friendly fuels and sustainable power generation systems. This order underscores the continued momentum in the cruise market, with passenger demand returning to pre-pandemic levels and contributing to Fincantieri’s strong order pipeline.

The agreement is considered “very important” by Fincantieri, indicating a value exceeding €2 billion. It also highlights the strategic significance of the Palermo shipyard in Fincantieri’s industrial structure and supports Viking’s long-term growth strategy, which includes delivery of 26 ocean ships by 2031.
