Australian consumer spending rose 1.1% in August, driven by a 12% increase in fuel costs, according to CBA. Excluding fuel, discretionary spending growth slowed to 0.4%, down from a 12% jump in July. Canberra has ruled out short-term cuts to fuel taxes to ease the burden of rising oil prices.
