Japan's Advantest, a leading supplier of semiconductor test equipment, is reportedly on track to meet its production targets ahead of schedule, according to recent reports. This development has contributed to a surge in the company’s stock price, prompting the Nikkei to take action to manage its influence on the Nikkei 225 index. As of July 31, Advantest accounted for 12.2% of the index, surpassing the 10% cap rule designed to prevent any single stock from dominating the index. In response, Nikkei will reduce Advantest’s weighting starting October 1 by adjusting the price factor used in the index calculation, from 7.2 to 6.4.

The company’s strong performance has also been supported by a strategic partnership with U.S.-based Applied Materials, aimed at advancing chip innovation through a new Silicon Valley-based center. Meanwhile, Advantest’s recent profit forecast has bolstered investor confidence, contributing to a 0.71% rise in the Nikkei share average. The Nikkei 225 will continue to monitor Advantest’s position in the index through its semiannual reviews, with further adjustments possible in the coming months.
